ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Varanus boehmei, commonly called the Golden Spotted Tree Monitor, is a small to medium-sized, fully arboreal monitor lizard native to Waigeo island. Its black with yellow spots coloration provides excellent camouflage among dense rainforest foliage.

Highly agile and diurnal, this species spends most of its time navigating trees and shrubs, hunting insects and small vertebrates. Its long tail and prehensile limbs aid balance and climbing, making it a skilled arboreal predator.

Tree Monitors thrive in tall enclosures with abundant climbing structures, hiding spots, and access to water. Maintaining warm temperatures, high humidity, and a varied carnivorous diet promotes natural activity, healthy growth, and overall wellbeing.
