Product Information

FS Axolotl Food is a high-protein, insect-based sinking pellet designed to reflect the natural diet of axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanum) in the wild. Formulated for all life stages, it delivers complete nutrition in a 4mm slowly sinking pellet that suits the feeding behaviour of this fully aquatic species.

Insect-Led Protein Formula

The pellet is built around insect meal from Black Soldier Fly and Mealworm — protein sources that closely mirror what axolotls consume naturally. Herring meal and salmon oil support this with additional high-quality animal protein and essential fatty acids. At 47% crude protein and 11% oil, the nutritional profile supports healthy growth and condition.

Added Natural Ingredients

  • Kelp included as a natural source of trace minerals and iodine
  • Haematococcus pluvialis provides astaxanthin, a natural carotenoid pigment source
  • Pea, carrot, wheat germ, and yeast round out the ingredient list for a balanced composition
  • Preserved with tocopherol and rosemary — no artificial antioxidants

Vitamins and Additives

Each batch is fortified with a full suite of vitamins and amino acids to cover what whole ingredients alone may not provide. This includes Vitamin A (19,000 IU/kg), Vitamin D3 (1,055 IU/kg), Vitamin C (315mg/kg), Vitamin E (75mg/kg), L-lysine monohydrochloride (480mg/kg), and DL-Methionine (480mg/kg).

Feeding Guidelines

Suitable from juvenile to adult. Feed juveniles (up to 6 months) once daily, offering as much as they will consume within 15 minutes and removing any uneaten pellets promptly. Adults (6 months and older) should receive 3–5 pellets per animal every other day, again with uneaten food removed to maintain water quality.

A well-formulated daily staple that takes the guesswork out of axolotl nutrition — whether you're keeping a single animal or a small group.
