Product Information

The ET PTC Self-Regulating Heat Mat PT2034 is a 24W, 45x20cm carbon fibre undertank heater designed for reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. It uses PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) carbon fibre heating technology to deliver uniform conductive heat across the mat surface — eliminating hotspots and providing the kind of belly heat that supports thermoregulation, digestion, appetite, and general metabolic function. Suitable as a primary or secondary heat source depending on species requirements, and particularly useful as a nighttime heat source where ambient temperatures must be maintained without lighting.

PTC Carbon Fibre Technology

PTC carbon fibre heating operates with an electrothermal conversion efficiency exceeding 95%, meaning the vast majority of energy drawn is converted directly into usable heat. The technology includes a built-in automatic fail-safe mechanism and a self-regulating maximum temperature, which limits the risk of overheating. The mat warms up rapidly and maintains consistent output without creating concentrated heat zones across its surface.

Thermostat Use — Important

Although the mat's self-regulating design does cut off at elevated temperatures, using it with a compatible thermostat is strongly recommended. A thermostat gives you accurate, reliable control over the temperatures your animals experience and remains the correct practice for any heating equipment in a vivarium or terrarium setup.

Installation and Thermal Gradient

The heat mat permanently adheres to the terrarium base, forming a solid bond that maximises conductive heat transfer between the mat and the substrate above it. Rubber spacers are included to assist with correct installation. When positioning, ensure that a meaningful cold zone remains accessible within the enclosure — animals must always be able to move away from the heat source to regulate their body temperature effectively.

Complementary Heating

Conductive belly heat from a mat works well in combination with radiant infrared-A basking heat from a suitable basking bulb. Together, these two heat sources allow reptiles to thermoregulate across a fuller temperature gradient, supporting both digestion and physical activity. A basking lamp providing UVA output alongside the mat can also contribute to physiological well-being and breeding behaviour in appropriate species.

At 24W and 45x20cm, the PT2034 is suited to larger enclosures where a substantial heated floor zone is needed. Paired with a quality thermostat and a well-considered setup, it provides a reliable and energy-efficient heat source around the clock.
