Product Information

The ET Coco Husk 8.8L Bag (PT2786) is a natural coconut husk fibre substrate designed for tropical vivarium setups housing humidity-dependent reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Sourced from sustainably grown coconut plantations in tropical Asia and processed in Vietnam (Cocos nucifera L.), it manages terrarium humidity passively through its inherent hygroscopic properties — no additives, no synthetics.

Processing and Safety

The fibre is ground and sieved before undergoing triple machine washing to remove residual salt content. It is then machine dried and heat-treated to reduce bacterial contamination, making it safe to lay straight into your setup. It is non-toxic and free from chemicals and pesticides, and can be composted in the garden once spent.

Humidity and Substrate Performance

  • Hygroscopic structure naturally regulates vivarium humidity without chemical assistance
  • High water retention capacity supports tropical and rainforest-style setups
  • Improved drainage and aeration promote the activity of beneficial waste-reducing organisms
  • Helps maintain adequate humidity for shedding and respiratory health in sensitive species
  • Resistant to mould and decay, keeping the substrate fresh between cleans

Suitable Species and Setup Types

Particularly well suited to burrowing and digging species — frogs, salamanders, dart frogs, tropical geckos, and moisture-loving invertebrates. The loose, fine texture allows natural digging behaviour while retaining enough structure to hold burrows. Not suited to arid or desert setups where dry substrate is required.

Directions for Use

Spread a 5–10 cm layer across the vivarium floor. Mist or water the substrate to achieve the required humidity level and monitor with a hygrometer. For setups with high ventilation or very high humidity demands, a substrate heater placed beneath the enclosure can help drive evaporation. Spot clean daily and replace the full substrate as needed.

At 8.8 litres, this bag provides a practical volume for medium-sized vivariums or for topping up an existing setup. 100% biodegradable and sustainably sourced, it is a responsible choice for keepers who want a substrate that works with the animal's natural environment rather than against it.
