ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Western hognoses are compact, burrowing snakes from open, often sandy habitats, and they really use an enclosure that gives them depth of substrate and plenty of cover. The trademark upturned snout is built for digging, so it’s normal to see them vanish under the surface for long stretches before popping up to explore.

This animal is listed as double het Lavender and Albino. “Het” (heterozygous) refers to recessive genes carried but not visually expressed, so the snake will look like a normal-coloured animal unless other visible traits are present.

Where it matters is future breeding: pairing decisions can be made to potentially produce Lavender, Albino, or combined outcomes depending on the mate’s genetics.
