ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Gonocephalus doriae, commonly called Doria’s Forest Dragon, is an arboreal agamid lizard inhabiting tropical rainforests of Borneo, Sumatra and surrounding regions. It is part of the Gonocephalus genus, known for their triangular heads, pronounced crests, and spiny scales.

This species is well camouflaged with earthy green to brown tones and subtle markings, allowing it to blend seamlessly against moss-covered tree trunks and dense foliage. It often perches vertically on branches or tree trunks, remaining motionless while waiting to ambush insects.

Doria’s Forest Dragons are diurnal and rely on dense vegetation and vertical structure for climbing and foraging. In captivity, tall enclosures with plenty of climbing opportunities, hiding spaces, and maintained humidity help replicate the forest environment where this species naturally thrives.
