ABOUT THIS SPECIES

Boiga dendrophila, commonly known as the Black Mangrove Snake, is a large, slender colubrid native to mangrove forests, lowland rainforests. It is distinguished by its glossy black body. The juveniles have yellow bands like other mangroves.

Primarily nocturnal, this arboreal species hunts rodents, birds, and small reptiles, using its prehensile tail and climbing skills to navigate trees and dense vegetation. Its large size and agility make it a capable predator in its natural environment.

In captivity, Black Mangrove Snakes require tall enclosures with ample climbing opportunities, hides, and access to water. Maintaining appropriate temperature, humidity, and providing suitably sized prey supports natural behaviour, health, and activity levels.
