ABOUT THIS SPECIES

The Blood Python is a heavy-bodied Southeast Asian python known for its thick girth and striking reddish to rusty-brown colouration, often patterned with darker blotches. Its robust body and relatively short length compared with other pythons give it a distinctive, muscular appearance.

Native to lowland tropical rainforests, swamps, and riverine habitats, it is semi-fossorial, often spending time partially buried or in dense vegetation. Despite its size, it is highly sedentary by nature but can be defensive if startled. In captivity, it benefits from secure hides, stable temperatures, high humidity, and a shallow water area for soaking to support natural behaviour and skin health.
